What is an Optical Manufacturing Technician?
Optimax is looking for hands-on technically oriented individuals to be opticians. The position requires excellent math skills, and the ability to read and comprehend specifications from blueprints and drawings and follow detailed technical processes to precision machine lenses. This process includes grinding and polishing, measuring, and testing.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintain scheduled activities as set forth by supervisor
- Provide written and verbal communication on status of projects
- Inspect and clean all optics to ensure they meet the project specifications
Education/ Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; AA or BA/BS degree in math or science preferred
- Strong math background and ability to collect and interpret data

POM Apprenticeship Program
The Optimax Precision Optics Manufacturing (POM) Apprenticeship program was created to prepare technicians for rewarding, long-term careers in precision optics manufacturing. By upskilling the workforce and developing optics fabrication technicians, this apprenticeship program will help both the industry and Optimax manage and sustain workforce growth.
The program consists of a three-year, on-the-job training (OJT) rotation through all departments at Optimax, equipping employees with the skills needed to become productive and technically skilled precision optics manufacturing technicians.
